Taking care of mom is a huge one since mom often gets lost in the shuffle. I DO work outside the home along with homeschooling three of my small children. It’s not a piece of cake, but I’ll show you how I manage. If there's still too much for everyone, consider what you may be able to hire out. Perhaps just having someone clean your bathrooms once a week would lighten the load or maybe you need to hire someone to maintain the lawn.
Let your child determine when the conversation has ended. I notice that when I give her those extra few minutes (and really, it’s often only 3-5 minutes), she leaves satisfied that mom cares. And why work at home if you’re not going to be available. I don’t care if that comes in 10-minute chunks on three different days.
Find Support and Encouragement
I eat the Silver Hills Brand but there is also Ezekiel Bread etc. You need to judge what is best for your teenagers at this time. Are they okay to be left during the day? I am beginning now to train both children to work more independently. I am also giving them more responsibility around the house. Knowing that they can get their own dinner if they have to, load the dishwasher, and clean up the kitchen after dinner, will go a long way towards lightening the load. We are determined to find reliable childcare.
What Hours Do You Homeschool If You Are Working?
Homeschooling is so much more efficient than a classroom. You also have less outside distractions. Plus, you know your kids better than any teacher could.

I actually worked for Baker as his project manager (and writer!) when I originally wrote this post in 2012, but I’m not getting any money out of this. And, in fact, when I discovered MvD in 2010, I had no idea I’d someday live the dream of WORKING on it! At the time, I had a serious excess of stuff, and a matching serious excess of debt.

They’ll support you through the highs and the lows. Holidays are also a great time to really catch up as needed. You won’t need to take every single holiday and not have fun. Kids don’t need seven hours straight of schoolwork. You can do like an hour or two and then you’re off for the rest of the day. Since 2020, the number one question I get asked most often is, “How can I work and homeschool at the same time?
One parent can work with the student on a few subjects while he or she is home, leaving the remaining subjects for the other parent. Maybe Dad is the math and science guy while Mom excels at history and English. Splitting up the schoolwork allows each parent to contribute and to work to his or her strengths.

There are homeschooling moms who work outside the home. I think back to when my youngest was born. My labor and delivery nurse was actually a homeschooling mom. She worked at the hospital and then she also homeschooled her kids at home. I work with 2 life coaches as a collaborative team.
Her system taught me to do one thing at a time, and to chip away for short, focused periods. I can’t take a full day to deep-clean my house. But I can take 15 minutes that I’d otherwise waste playing phone games and vacuum one floor of the house. I can take 15 minutes and sort out a drawer full of junk that’s gotten hard to close – and so can you.
With six children to care for, here are my top tips for getting it all done. This day is kind of less of “me” in it. I designed it as sometimes I end up working all day instead of half. They need to be able to learn without me. Homeschooling when one parent is home is difficult.
Most are surprised when I tell them that I work outside the home, as a registered nurse.
